LANTERN PRESS

GRAPHIC DESIGN | PRODUCTION DESIGN

Creating memorable products for your memorable experiences.

From 2022 to 2023, I worked as a production designer for Lantern Press in Seattle, WA. Lantern Press (LP) is a dynamic art company specializing in creating beautiful imagery for client specific needs from around the country. Featuring many visually unique product lines and core art styles, LP has a very deep catalog of artwork created over the past decade showcasing everything from national parks, to “mom and pop” roadside attractions.

Products range from small trinkets to full canvases to hang in your home. My job as a member of the production design team was to translate various pieces of art into a wide range of products, all with very specific guidelines and requirements.

A single piece of art at LP can be used on a large metal sign and a shot glass for a client order, and as such it was role to ensure a visual consistency and quality for every product ordered. Oftentimes, art would take an extreme amount of work to change formats or dimensions, as not all artwork is created equal, and the back catalog of LP is aging. This made some products difficult to work with, but that challenge was part of
the fun.

As a member of the LP production design team, we needed to be highly efficient, quick working, and an active problem solver daily while working through hundreds of items. Crunch, rush orders, and one off projects could also come through, adding some additional levels of project management to the daily routine.

Additionally, Lantern Press services client supplied artwork. For these tasks, production design worked more as a creative house executing quality checks, formats, or even creating new pieces of artwork for clients via contours, namedrops, and other services.
